Open the lid and at first glance, you can see there is no filler in this 47-piece kit. You get a 1/2″-drive 90-tooth ratchet, a 3-inch and 5-inch extension, and the rest is all socket glory. The Milwaukee 47-piece kit includes SAE and Metric sockets in shallow and deep-well. On the anvil end of the socket, Milwaukee made four flat sides, creating a square. With a wrench, pliers, or adjustable wrench, you can easily apply torque to the socket without the ratchet. This will allow access to even tighter areas than with a ratchet.

The included ratchet is about 11-inches long and is chrome-plated, as are the rest of the sockets. Additionally, the 90-tooth design is done with a single-pawl design, and there is no push-button detent for releasing the sockets. Sockets are retained by the spring-loaded detent-ball on the 1/2″ anvil. Knurling on the body of each extension provides an additional grip for loosening fasteners with your fingers, even when they’re greasy. Relief areas in the six corners of the sockets allow for the socket to bite on the sides of the fastener, rather than rounding-off corners of the fastener.

At just short of $250, this is not exactly a cheap socket set, but then again, Milwaukee is after the Pro mechanic. Furthermore, be careful not to compare this complete 1/2″ drive kit to a kit that has tons of filler items, like 1/4″ hex bits, Allen keys, and smaller sockets. At the same time, I wish Milwaukee would have left off the 10, 11, and 12mm sockets and gave us more on the upper end.
