I didn’t really expect to be impressed when breaking open the blow-molded case holding the 192-piece DeWalt Mechanics Tool Set DWMT75049. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last, that I was wrong.
There is no doubt that DeWalt has long delivered some of the best power tools to the trades people over the past few decades. DeWalt now delivers quality mechanics tools at an excellent value.

This 192-piece kit consists of sockets, ratchets, extensions, a few bits and some hex keys (Allen wrenches). The sockets are made from chrome vanadium, which is typical to many other non-impact tools on the market. However, there are some features that set the tools in the DeWalt mechanics tool set DWMT75049 apart from the rest. Each six-point socket includes the DirectTorque technology which helps reduce the risk of stripping fasteners. This is the same technology found in the DeWalt DWMT74739 impact set. In addition, each socket, bit and extension includes a knurling ring that you can actually feel. This knurling helps your fingers get a grip, even when your hands are oily and greasy.

Polished Chrome Vanadium steel makes it easy to clean these bits after the mechanic has tackled the job. Final Words

While many mechanics tools are sold in smaller segmented quantity, it’s nice to see options to purchase a more complete set. Granted, this this DeWalt 192-piece set doesn’t include impact sockets, larger hex bits (such as used for brake calipers); however, it does cover the majority of needs for the every-day common jobs. While I’m not a huge fan of blow-molded cases, it’s easy for those like me to remove said bits, place on rails and in our toolbox. With good quality, a price in the ~$200 range and full lifetime warranty, it’s not secret that we recommend this for any mechanic in need of a tool set.
