WD-40 is more than just water displacement and spray-lube. They actually have a long line of products designed for lubrication and fighting corrosion on metals, including grease and WD-40 Rust Remover Soak. While rust remover products have been around for decades, it’s another story to find one that works, is non-toxic, and that is reasonably priced.

I grew up with a love for cars. My Dad was a drag-racer and car nut. Our Saturday morning routine was walking the rows of cars in the junkyard, looking for parts. The process is very simple. We opened the container and poured some of the WD-40 Rust Remover Soak into a clear plastic container. The Rust Remover is clear as water and is non-toxic, hence it won’t hurt paint, plastic or rubber. After nearly filling the container, we placed the random rusty parts and tools into the solution. Now is the easy part, we wait.

After just soaking for 1 hour, there was a very distinct difference in all the pieces that had been soaking. The most prominent difference was the tin snips. Virtually all the rust on the business end of the snips was gone. The car parts that were covered in rust clearly needed some more bath time, but it was still evident that the solution and process is working.

Final Words

Removing rust with WD-40 Rust Remover Soak is simple and effective. It’s non-toxic and only costs $21 per gallon. In addition, you can use this solution over and over until it turns black. Try it out for yourself and you’ll see how simple and effective it is. Keep in mind, you will need to lube, prime or paint to protect the new-again surface.
