It’s hard to have a pickup truck and not have a tool box in the back. I’ve tried doing without, and I just ended up with cultters of tools and parts everywhere. Ultimately, it resulted in purchasing another truck box. Home Depot is now getting in the game of truck boxes, and not just from Husky Tools (their tool brand). We recently installed the Defender Series Weather Guard truck box which came from big-box giant.
Weather Guard Truck Box Features – Defender Series
Our Weather Guard truck box was part of their Defender series, and it came in black aluminum diamond plate. The 71″L x 19″W x 17″D size gives us 10.7 cu. ft. of storage space inside the truck box. The aluminum diamond plate and welded construction ensures that it holds up in the most stressful areas. With black powder coating inside and out, you get a really good look, an easy to clean surface, and protection of the aluminum to oxidation or contaminants.
A welded aluminum lid is reinforced with C-channel which provides a very rigid construction, so you can close the lid evenly with both latches engaged. This eliminates the need to walk around to the other side of the truck. The dual gas struts raise the lid on their own, and their chrome shafts are covered by plastic sleeves for protection. The full perimeter of the lid has a D-shaped rubber weather seal that keeps the dust and moisture out, keeping your tools clean.

Dual stage rotary lathches connect together to work with the push of either button (driver or passenger). The push button locks are also tamper-proof and have a drill-resistant key hole.
Installing the Defender Series Weather Guard truck box was really simple with the included drill-free mounting brackets. We had ours secured in minutes using our impact driver and a 1/2″ socket. Home Depot has a long line of truck boxes from Weather Guard. Our box runs about $530 and includes a 7-year warranty. Check out the boxes Home Depot has to offer here.
