Final Thoughts

Monster seems to have pulled the trigger quick on this one to get ahead of the industry. We can definitely find many uses for them, and I will surely find a place in my tool box for them.

Removing torx-head screws on the pillar post trim between the pillar and the door can be a real pain. The new Monster flex head ratchet driver set (part# MSTRDSET) makes this a breeze, as well as other jobs that include small fasteners in tight places. One of the unique characteristics of this set is that we could install a 1/4″ socket on one end, and then install a 1/4″ bit on the other. Add in the flexible head design, and this is a very versatile tool that can fit in your pocket too.

Something that I know all to well is the auto glass business, and we used to install a lot of chevy truck windshields where the Monster flex head ratchet driver would work perfect. One every Chevy truck from 1999 until now, in order to cut out the windshield, the technician first has to remove the 5 or more 15-torx screws from the plastic trim on the pillar post. This is not a problem, except for the bottom two screws. These can only be accessed with a wrench of this sort, or a 1/4″ ratchet with a stubby 15-torx bit. In addition, with the MSTRDSET wrenches, the technician can also add their 7mm socket to the other end for removing the 7mm bolts from the cowl trim. This saves more time and eliminates needing extra tools.

Conclusion

Monster seems to have pulled the trigger quick on this one to get ahead of the industry. We have yet to see these same type double-end bit/socket wrenches from any of the competitors. We are sure they will come, but the Monster flex head ratchet driver set MSTRDSET is the lone wolf at the moment. I would like to see more knurling or embossing on the ratcheting head, so there is more grip for the user’s fingertips. Overall, these 1/4″ drive wrenches seem to be a very handy tool, and we can definitely find many uses for them. I will surely find a place in my tool box for them.
