Hofmann Megaplan recently introduced the Hofmann Megaplan Megaspin 420 Wheel Balancer featuring No Check Spin technology, 6 o’clock weight positioning with inner and outer rim locks, two laser weight guides, automatic LED lights, and a narrow chassis design which brings the balancing shaft forward to allow better access to the tire when selecting positions and applying weights.
The Hofmann Megaplan Megaspin 420 Wheel Balancer only requires the operator to select the weight position(s) and lower the hood. This is a much simpler concept than other wheel balancers, such as the COATS 6275 Heavy Duty wheel balancer
Our Take
Something as simple as a pothole, a curb (if you drive like me), or a flat spot in the rubber caused by a hard braking can knock a wheel out of balance. An unbalanced wheel isn’t just annoying – causing static vertical vibration, dynamic side-to-side wobble in the steering wheel, or loud road noise – it can be downright dangerous and lead to costly repairs and decreased fuel efficiency. Imbalance can concentrate the burden in an area of the tire instead of spreading out the load, raising the chances of a flat or disintegration.

It’s such a quick and inexpensive maintenance item that there’s really no excuse to roll around on it. So if you’ve got any of those symptoms, corroborated by vibration that occurs only at a certain speed or a tight speed range, it’s time for a wheel balance and the Hofmann Megaplan Megaspin 420 Wheel Balancer looks like the latest and greatest tool for the job.
Equal Force – Simple Concept, Really
The concept of the wheel balancer is simple – the centrifugal force must be equal in all directions to prevent vibration. The most visible difference of the Megaspin 420’s design compared to just about every other professional wheel balancer on Earth is the balancing shaft’s forward position to make it much more user-friendly. The traditional design strangely puts the chassis and mounted wheel in each others’ way. It’s obviously not a deal-breaker because they’ve been made like that for decades, but we like this new “spin” on things.
Megaspin 420 boasts several options to make the job easier. A zero weight lift which would be particularly helpful for heavy wheels and tires, a Megaclamp pneumatic clamp, a universal clamping adapter for closed rims with 3, 4 or 5 holes and hole circles of 95-210mm including special centring cone, a centring ring diameters 56.5, 57, 66.5, and 72.5mm, a clamping plate for alloy rims, a spacer kit for wheels with very large offset (SUV, 4 WD), and a spacer disk and cone for vans, 4 WD-cars and light trucks with centre bores of 97-180mm.
A tire and wheel are mounted on the Megaspin 420 in the traditional way, but then the automotive Pro need only calibrate the weight position to the wheel at 6 o’clock position with the laser, close the hood, and let the machine do the rest. Once the tire comes to a stop, the machine locks the tire to ensure the lasers indicate the proper weight placement. It’s as simple as that. The Megaspin 420 promises that no check spins are necessary – that’s how we roll! We like that it takes the ambiguity out of proper weight placement and gets the customer back on the road much quicker.
