Metabo HPT MultiVolt Impact Wrench

We’ve known for the last few months that Hitachi has been gearing up for their big rebranding to the Metabo HPT designation. As of last week, all systems are “go” at what used to be Hitachi US headquarters, as the company celebrated their brand launch near Atlanta, GA. At this launch event, they showcased a lot of the new tools that they’ve got planned for release under the new brand name. One of the highlights of the show, the Metabo HPT MultiVolt Impact Wrench, looks to show off the innovation, durability, and power that the brand hopes to be known for.

What’s Different?

Metabo HPT MultiVolt Impact WrenchAesthetically, not much has changed. The new Metabo HPT tools look pretty similar to the Hitachi tools except for the new brand name. And, functionally, we’re not seeing major changes from what Hitachi tools have always been. However, the Metabo HPT brand has made a few innovative tweaks that make their lineup stand out.

The big deal with the MultiVolt lineup has to do with power. The Metabo HPT MultiVolt Impact Wrench, like all of the tools in the MultiVolt lineup, runs off either a 36V battery or AC power from your wall outlet. The MultiVolt packs utilize the higher capacity 21700 cells for more power and longer runtimes. Plus, the Metabo HPT lineup is still compatible with Hitachi batteries, and visa versa.

Upon purchasing the tool, the user will receive either a MultiVolt battery pack and charger, or the AC adapter. And, as a bonus, if you register your new Metabo HPT tool between November 1 through December 31, 2018, Metabo HPT will send you a free battery.

Performance

Right now, the Metabo HPT MultiVolt Impact Wrench comes in two high-torque flavors: a 3/4″ square drive or a 1/2″ square drive. Both models employ a friction ring and pin detent to grip your sockets. They both offer 4-stage speed selection as well. The 3/4″ model provides up to 812 ft-lbs of torque (and 1,328 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque) while the 1/2″ model provides 775 ft-lbs of torque (1,218 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque). Both models provide 0-600 to 1,500 RPM and 0-1,200 to 2,900 BPM.

With the MultiVolt lineup, Metabo HPT also looks to provide tools that prioritize durability. The Metabo HPT MultiVolt Impact Wrench features a brushless motor that not only increases power but, with little to no maintenance concerns, also increases the tool’s durability. It also includes a heat-resistant bumper that not only protects the front of the tool but also whatever it is you’re working on. The tool also comes with an IP56 rating, which means that it can stand up to a fair amount of moisture and dust.

Keep an eye out for the Metabo HPT MultiVolt line of tools; most of them should be available now at your local hardware store and online.
