If you’ve been paying any attention to this website recently—and why wouldn’t you be—you’d notice that the hot topic of our conversation has revolved around cordless high torque impact wrenches. Well, hold on to your lugnuts, because the fun’s not over just yet. An updated model of the Milwaukee High Torque Impact Wrench offers One-Key capabilities. For those of you not familiar with Milwaukee’s One-Key system, it basically allows you to communicate with your tool via Milwaukee’s app. Power settings, battery life, and location information can all be accessed through the One-Key app. With this impact wrench, One-Key will also allow you to customize your wrench’s torque settings.

What Milwaukee Has To Say About It
“…We’re disrupting the industry once again by allowing users to completely customize all of this power through the addition of One-Key. As advancements in technology have grown, so too has the need for increased control over the performance of users’ impact wrenches. Not all users require the maximum torque at all times and desire to have more control over the output of their tool. With the M18 Fuel with One-Key Impact Wrenches, we’re giving users complete control of their tool’s output with application-specific modes and customizable torque settings that will allow them to perform the job faster and more productively. These benefits provide an experience like users have never had before – the first cordless impact wrenches capable of the most repeatable torque performance out of any impact wrench available today.”

Milwaukee High Torque Impact Wrench Highlights
One-Key App and Features
Obviously, the biggest feature of Milwaukee’s upcoming impact wrench release revolves around One-Key. With this impact wrench, One-Key will allow the user to dial in adjustable torque settings from the Milwaukee app. Individual user profiles can be saved to the tool, but this impact wrench also includes a range of preconfigured settings. Of course, the user won’t need to run back and forth to his phone every time he wants to adjust torque; once the user has set up the tool, the app is no longer vital to the operation.
Customizable Power Modes
The new Milwaukee High Torque Impact Wrench has a Lug Nut Mode. The intent is to possibly eliminate the need for torque sticks. The tool delivers repeatable torque output on lug nut applications within a range. Another setting allows the user to check final torque with a calibrated torque wrench. If you’re not desperate for an exact torque setting, the mode works well. The trouble is that torque varies with the socket size—so you’re hitting a moving target if you step up to larger sizes.
Concrete Anchor Mode automatically shuts the tool off once the anchor is seated. The result, here, is a reduction in broken anchors and stripped fasteners. Custom Drive Control allows the operator to adjust the torque and RPM output for repeatability on serial fastening applications.
Super Torque
Milwaukee has three One-Key models. The Milwaukee 2862-22 and 2863-22 are 1/2″ wrenches, available with either pin detent or a friction ring. The 2862-22 generates 750 ft-lbs of torque and 1100 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque. The 2863-22 puts out 1000 ft-lbs of fastening torque and 1400 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque. Both feature 4-mode customizable drive control. The Milwaukee 2864-22 3/4″ wrench comes with a friction ring and generates 1200 ft-lbs of fastening torque. Taking off a nut? The same tool will deliver 1500 ft-lbs to get the job done.
All models will retail for around $499 for the kit. They will all also be available as bare tools for those of you who don’t need extra batteries. Like all Milwaukee M18 tools, the new high torque impact wrench will come with a 5-year warranty.
Final Thoughts
Like I said earlier, if you’ve been following our coverage of cordless high-torque impact wrenches, you’ve seen how well the Milwaukee 2767-22 performed. It finished first in our side-by-side shootout, and not for lack of legitimate competition. It also placed first in our power and speed tests. Finally, it had the richest feature set out of all the other high torque impact wrenches we tested. If you’ve been considering the purchase of a new cordless impact wrench, you can’t go wrong with the Milwaukee 2767-22.
With that said, this newer Milwaukee High Torque impact wrench looks promising. It includes the One-Key System, and it will likely get better over time with software updates. This wrench carries the exact same specs as our shootout winner. For an extra $50 it allows for customizable and repeatable power settings, tool tracking, and monitoring battery life. Admittedly, folks have gotten by without having these features for years. They’re certainly not necessary for this tool to function well. Still, we really like the potential One-Key offers, and it adds an element of convenience and functionality that could save time and money.
