Using cordless tools for detailing cars is something I sneered at for years, but times are a changing. This is especially true as of recent, since I started using the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 7″ Polisher and now this Ingersoll Rand cordless polisher and sander (model: G1621). Not only has it worked well for me detailing cars, but it has also deemed itself useful for doing odd jobs using a scotch-brite pad and sanding disc on the included backing plates. As with typical detail shops, Michael’s Auto Detailing sometimes requires our mechanic skills as well. I could easily get used to leaving these cords behind.

The Ingersoll Rand cordless polisher size allows for use in the tightest spaces. Some areas where I find the most benefit, other than the typical headlight polish and restorations, is with my customer’s classic cars and hotrods. many of the older cars have larger fenders with creases where the fenders meet back at the body. With my typical 6″ or 7″ polishers, we risk scuffing the paint or hitting the body with the machine itself. Customers seem to frown upon blemishes in their $100K+ show cars. With the G1621, I can easily work this tool around and in those creases and work around the wheel openings without risk of bruising the finish or panel.

Final Words

I have now added another brand of tool to my tool collection, thanks to the Ingersoll Rand cordless polisher. Even though it’s only a 12-volt tool, the G1621 has proven to be more than powerful enough to accomplish the polishing tasks at hand. I can quickly see that we’ll find more tasks for the G1621 in the days ahead.
