The perfect finish is always the end goal, but achieving it is another story. The XC 3401 VRG Flex 6-inch orbital polisher may be that missing link in the tool arsenal. The forced orbital rotation keeps the power delivered where the pad meets the finish, no matter how tough the job. After more than thirty years in this business, tools like this Flex still bring excitement to our job.

The Job – Black Paint, Pickup Trucks, and Florida

Black vehicles always look great, when they’re clean. Living in Central Florida, rarely does a week go by that we don’t get some sort of rain. After the rain, we get the glorious sunshine to bake in all the great water spots just begging to etch into those black beauties. Our subjects were a 2007 Ford F250 – Harley Davidson edition and a 2014 Chevy Tahoe, both in black. Water spots and unintended swirls adorned both finishes, hence our work was cut out for us. These would be a perfect scenario to try out the Flex 6-inch orbital polisher, model XC 3401 VRG.

XC 3401 VRG Flex 6-Inch Orbital Polisher Features

Power is not lacking with the Flex XC 3401 VRG. With a six-speed dial and a variable speed trigger, the user has some choices on how they want to apply all this power. After using the Flex for a while, we settled in on setting the dial on “6” (high) and using the variable speed trigger to achieve the desired speed/power. With a foam pad and 3M polish, removing the water spots, hard-water haze and swirls was no problem. Albeit, these were work trucks, so we didn’t anticipate a show-car shine. The 8mm (5/16″) orbit, with a speed of 9,600 rpm cut leveled out the finish pretty quick.

Final Thoughts

Flex is a new brand in my vast toolbox, and it is worthy of being there. This 6-inch polisher is our new everyday polisher for turning around used cars and our regular customers’ luxury cars alike. One thing we didn’t love was the knob (handle) that screwed to the front, above the pad. We removed the knob and cupped the end of the Flex with the palm of our hand. After some extended use, our hand got a little warm, but nothing uncomfortable. We would not hesitate to recommend the XC 3401 VRG Flex 6-inch orbital polisher to any professional detailer.
