Pipe and tubing notchers come in a variety of platforms. A quick search will return pneumatic operated, hydraulic press and dies, jigs with drills and hole saws, and the abrasive type. None that we have seen yet have the flexibility and feature set of the new JET Abrasive Pipe Notcher. JET states this to be a dual station machine, however, there are three ways to access and do different work.
The dual station JET abrasive pipe notcher has the basic idea of a large belt sander. Maybe more aptly a large belt sander, on steroids, and turned horizontal. This has a large wheel on one end the drives the belt, and the opposite end allows different size rollers. These rollers can be changed, based on the work that is being done.

Dual Station JET Abrasive Pipe Notcher Features
Operators of the JET notcher can access this from either end of the horizontal belt sander and the middle. For notching pipe, the user works from the exchangeable roller end (smaller roller end) of the notcher. Included roller mandrels are in 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1-1/4″, 1-1/2″, 2″, and 2-1/2″ sizes. Likewise, pipe notching capacity for the JET abrasive pipe notcher is from 1/2″ to 2-1/2″ OD pipe.
The user can easily adjust the angle of the notched pipe, from 30 to 90 degrees, without the need for tools. Users can also exchange the different size mandrel rollers without tools. This allows for quick and toolless pipe notching flexibility. Pipes quickly lock into the housing, and a large lever arm allows the operator to move the pipe in for notching.
Grinding and Deburring
Operating from the opposite side of the notcher, the user can do typical grinding as well. The grinding end is the larger roller side, so there is more surface area. This allows for more universal grinding than just pipes. When the grinding side is used, the direction of the JET abrasive pipe notcher needs to be changed. This is easy to do with the directional switch right by the grinder access area. The safety lockout switch is easy to see and operate, and it can easily be locked out of use.
In the middle of the dual station JET notcher is a large access area to the grinding belt. This can deburr the notched pipe, or sand any other metal being worked. A hinged top cover provides full access to the top of the belt, hence giving the user the full 4-inch wide and 24-inch long flat sanding table.
Features Continued
Three replacement sanding/grinding belts in 36, 60 and 80 grit are included with the JET abrasive pipe notcher. Heavy gauge steel keeps the unit stable and durable. An included safety shield helps to protect the user during normal operation. Two 3-inch dust ports keep the sparks and debris away from the user.
An AC induction motor specs out at 3HP for single-phase units and 4HP for 3-phase. JET also carries a CSA/US certification for its abrasive pipe notcher. Finally, the dual station JET abrasive pipe notcher-1Ph (756180) and 3 Ph (756185) carry a 2-year warranty, as well as JET’s RED Assurance guarantee.
