Final Thoughts

Simple yet powerful. The XDT13 from Makita is a simple impact that gets the job done and costs around $100. This includes the tool, battery, charger, and carry case.

If you have yet to buy an impact driver, this is a great time to do so. This Makita XDT13 brushless impact driver is a no-frills tool, yet it has more than enough power to get the job done. This kit includes the Makita XDT13 18V impact driver, 3.0 Ah 18-volt Lithium-Ion battery, charger, and tool bag.

The flagship Makita brushless impact driver is the XDT12, which offers several bells and whistles not included on this XDT13. Still, if you have no need for things like different driver modes, then why pay the premium price? From tip to tail, the XDT13 impact is less than 5-inches from tip to tail, and it weighs just 3.3 lbs.

With the pull of the variable speed trigger, the user can regulate the RPM from 0-3,400, and the IPM (Impacts Per Minute) from 0-3,600. The auto-locking collar allows you to insert a bit with one hand and the collar snaps back to the “Locked” position.

Testing the Makita XDT13 Brushless Impact Driver

We have a testing rig setup for testing impact wrenches, so we inserted a 1/4″ hex-to-1/2″ socket adapter in the Makita XDT13. We torqued the bolts to 120 ft-lbs, then 150, 180, and finally 200. The XDT13 Makita brushless impact driver was able to remove all 5 bolts in each of the scenarios. This much work is way too much and not intended for any impact driver, but we did want to test the limits.

This is a great tool for driving fasteners into wood, working around an engine compartment, or the interior of a vehicle. The included 3.0 Ah battery provides sufficient runtime for a day’s work unless you’re hanging drywall or metal roofing.
