Final Thoughts

Using the Ryobi P601 trim router frees you up from dragging a cord around. If you’re a DIY or beginner woodworker, this will be a great router for getting started. Even for the serious woodworker, the P601 can be that quick grab for cleaning up sharp edges, round overs, and even shallow plunge cuts. The versatility of the 18V cordless router will help with efficiency. It’s hard not to recommend it at just $69 for the bare tool.

Any serious woodworker or craftsman will still have the need for a big corded router, but the Ryobi P601 18V trim router really performs round overs and groove cuts outstanding. And, you don’t have to worry about dragging around a cord. Thank you to the Home Depot for sponsoring this post and providing the Ryobi P601 trim router.

The Ryobi P601 router delivers 29,000 RPM from the 18V One+ system. The P601 is only $69, but it comes as a bare tool. No battery or charger. Any 1/4″ collet bit will work with the Ryobi router, and a simple on/off switch controls the power.

Setting the depth of cut can be a two-stage approach. You can release the lock lever, then move the guard up and down to the desired depth. Then, using the micro dial, you can fine-tune the depth to your desired setting.

Round Over

We used some round over bits and straight cut bits to make several cuts through pine, poplar, and oak. We were impressed with the performance from this little 18V Ryobi P601.

Final Thoughts

This is in no way going to replace a woodworkers 1hp router, but it will act as an excellent supplement for lighter work. For that beginner or DIYer looking to tackle simple projects, this is a great choice as well. You can pick up the Ryobi P601 from Home Depot for just $69 for the bare tool, if you already have the 18V Ryobi batteries. If you’re not on the Ryobi One+ platform already, you can purchase a 2Ah battery and charger for just $59, so you’re all-in for less than $130. Furthermore, the Ryobi backs this router with a 3-year warranty as well. It’s hard to say no to this.
