Tenryu Silencer Series Coated Wood Blades

Tenryu Silencer Series Coated Wood Blades

Tenryu was on-hand at this year’s IWF and showed off their newest Silencer series of 10″ coated miter and table saw blades. The blades use an ATAF Shear face grind on the blades. ATAF is basically Alternate Top, Alternate Face and is similar to ATB (Alternate Top Bevel) except that each tooth also alternates the face angle so that it diverts the cutting load left and right instead of cutting straight on. The idea is that it creates a sort of shearing action which is more efficient when cutting cross-grain, natural wood.

The new Tenryu Silencer Series Coated Wood Blades also feature a dampened laser cut plate cuts down on blade vibration during use. There isn’t a ton of information available on these blades, but we do like the resin-filled style of laser-cut body slots, which in the past we’ve found to be a pretty good solution for blade vibration reduction. Tenryu also told us that they use a hand hammer plate tensioning for a flatter blade and truer cuts. The blades are available in 6-1/2″, 7-1/2″, 8-1/2″, 10″ and 12″ sizes and 40T, 52T, 60T, 72T, 80T and 100T configurations (not in all sizes, see above). These look to be a decent blade for slide or conventional miter saws and crosscutting with portable saws.
