EGO Z6 Zero Turn Mower Video Review

EGO Z6 Zero Turn Riding Mower Features

With a triple-blade 52″ deck, the EGO Z6 Zero Turn mower cuts more than 3 acres on a single charge. Typical zero turn mowers have a single petrol-powered engine that powers the hydraulic pumps, drive-wheels, blades, and more sometimes. EGO uses 5 brushless motors that handle all the tasks without hydraulic oil, pumps, belts, hoses, or spindles. Could maintenance literally be whittled down to just sharpening blades and charging batteries?!

Sitting behind the driver on the EGO Z6 are six 56-volt Power+ lithium-ion batteries. Each of these batteries are 12Ah beasts that deliver the power to 3 brushless motors driving the blades independently. Two more brushless motors power each rear wheel independently as well. Since each blade and each wheel have their own motor, the management system can manage these components individually as well.

56V Zero Turn Runtime

On a single charge, we were able to cut more than 3 acres of Bahia grass and we had 12% left on our batteries. Yes, this is a bit short of the 4-acre claim, but we did overlap our cutting by about 25-30% on each pass. Furthermore, we had our speed and blades on High as well. This very well could have been lowered to possibly increase runtime. You get 3 different running modes that change the speed and controls. Control, Standard, and Sport provide the user with three quite different experiences driving the zero-turn. Control and Standard are very manageable when turning and accelerating. However, the Sport mode is quite eccentric and you can easily create ruts in the turf via the rear wheels.

Final Thoughts

We’re really just seeing the first generation of mass-produced electric zero-turn mowers. With that said, EGO has done an awesome job with power and controls. They’re even providing a 5-year warranty for the mower, the batteries, and the charger. These units are expected to start selling in August 2022 and pricing is right at the $7,000 range. You can pre-order yours beforehand as well.
